THE PLOT:

In the not to distant future, call it someday AD. A world like we only imagined exists. A world of sexual fantaties coming true with lifelike androids and if you are sick or dying they can transplant your brain or even your soul to an android body. That's your "ghost in the shell".

We follow a super secret Japanese government spy agency called Section 9 and top operetive Major Motoko Kusanagi but everyone just calls her Major. Section 9 is investigating a terrorist on the web that calls himself the Puppetmaster which big plans that may involve mass murder.

ZEDD'S OPINION:

This is a classic anime that I enjoy as much today as I did when I first watch it back in 1995. This is a cool movie with lots of cool robot effects and the story stays within the realm of the possible as we progress in robot technology are we really that far from having a ghost in the shell ourselves? These classic characters are well written and the dubbing is great, the voice over actors that took care of the dubbing does a great job and can be commended. But a warning to parents, the type of parent who went to see Gremlins without paying attention to the trailer. Just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean it's for kids or at least by American "standards". This movie is full of "bad language" and nudity. Hence the rated R. But adults and cool parents will get a kick out of GHOST IN THE SHELL. I give it...9 STARS

VOLTRON'S OPINION:

I agree with Zedd on GHOST IN THE SHELL, I love anime in most shapes and forms and this is no exception. It's kind of hard to watch certain scenes near the end which I don't want to get into in fear of spoiling it. But when you watching it you'll know what I mean. I think this is a must for all anime and "cyberpunk" fans. However if you aren't an anime or cyberpunk fan, then this isn't the movie for you. I give GHOST IN THE SHELL 10 STARS.

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):

+ ANIMATION (The animation is just perfect.)
+ CHARACTERS (The characters are well written and likeable)
+ DUBBING (The dubbing is just perfect.)
+ STORY (More plausable then some would care to admit.)
+ ATMOSPHERE (The future world is so vast and realistic.)

ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):

- HARD TO WATCH (Some scenes without giving it away is hard to watch.)
- NOT FOR AMERICAN CHILDREN (Not the way Parents in this country blindfold children to the truth.)

...AND FINALLY...

- FAN BASED (If you aren't big on anime or cyberpunk style science fiction, then this isn't the movie for you.)
